unity

Each year since 2017, we've developed a jersey that speaks to the initiative we focus on, an issue that requires us to come together to work for a greater good.

When we launched the Unity Jersey in 2017, our goal was to drive our own cycling culture to be more inclusive, more welcoming and more global. Cycling can be a closed network, a collection of secret handshakes. Feeling the unity in pedaling together, we launched the Unity Jersey with an eye towards causes we believed in.

We created the Unity Jersey, a bold design on our ES Jersey, aimed at celebrating what unites us, with 100% of the profits from its sale going to the buyer’s choice of the charities below, each with a mission to unify and celebrate togetherness.

Charities:

American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Human Rights Campaign (HRC), Amnesty International, World Bicycle Relief

100% of the profits from the 2018 Unity Jersey went to The Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (or RAICES). A 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides free legal services to underserved immigrant children, families and refugees in Central and South Texas. RAICES is the largest immigration non-profit in Texas with offices in Austin, Corpus, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.

The money raised was specifically earmarked to aid in the reunification of families separated at the border.

Since we began the Unity Jersey in 2017, our goal has been to use cycling to bring people together and given the vast number of people affected by mental health issues, there’s not a sole whose life isn’t touched. For 2019, 100% of the proceeds from the Unity Jersey will be donated to NAMI, to further their mission of building better lives for Americans affected by mental illness.

No one planned on a pandemic. Our plans were reserved for family trips and events, long group rides or those types of big races or fondos that end with lunch on paper plates and a beer or three. These losses are isolating before measures like social distancing are in place.

Yet, if the weeks of this crisis have taught us anything, it’s that we aren’t alone. We’re unified in our fight against the virus and our battle against the fear that comes with a global pandemic.

Climate change is a cause that demands unity, not just due to its complexity but because of its unjust effects around the world: food security, waterborne illness, air pollution are only a few results that will widen the gaps between rich and poor, between the healthy and the sick.

Taking design inspiration from the receding land masses affected by rising sea levels, the 2021 UNITY Jersey is a physical representation of our collective ticking clock, the losses we all face.
